Journaling

Journaling

The Journal is a free-writing space with faint baselines — quiet and unhurried. You write; the app listens gently in the background.

Opening a Journal Entry

Go to the Journal section. You can optionally pick a mood before you begin writing — this places the entry in the context of your mood data over time.

If you tap Add note from a Part's profile page, the journal opens already anchored to that part with a soft starter phrase, so you land somewhere intentional rather than facing a blank page.

Writing Freely

There are no prompts. Write whatever is on your mind — a situation that bothered you, something you noticed in a session, a feeling you cannot quite name. The journal is a no-pressure space.

As you write, a parts detection strip appears near the bottom of the page, above the status bar. After about 40 characters, the app quietly checks your text against the parts you have named and lights up small watercolor beings for any it notices. This is not intrusive — it is simply a mirror, showing you which parts may be present in your words.

Saving an Entry

When you are done, tap Save (in the header) or save and close (at the bottom of the page) to commit the entry. Your writing is stored immediately as the first message of a private journaling session.

The first time an AI-assisted save would run, a one-time consent overlay appears first — the same your choice about AI screen shown before your first sitting. It names the processors behind the companion (Anthropic, sometimes OpenAI; OpenAI's Whisper for speech; ElevenLabs for spoken replies) and asks you to acknowledge before continuing. You can accept with i understand — let's begin, or decline and save without AI, which keeps your entry without the reflection. See Running a Session for the full description; you only ever see it once, though it reappears if you withdraw AI consent in Settings and then use an AI feature.

After saving, a reflection pane slides into view. The AI facilitator offers a brief mirror of what you wrote — a gentle "they say" bubble that reflects the entry back before you leave. From here you have two choices:

  • keep going — carries your entry into a live AI session where you can continue exploring with a part
  • save and close — completes the sitting quietly and returns you to the Dashboard

If anything in your writing triggers the app's safety layer, crisis resources appear above the reflection — calm and concrete — before you make a choice.

Your entry is already saved at this point; the reflection pane is a pause before closing, not a gate on whether your writing is kept. You can find the entry again in your History.

Privacy

Your journal entries are entirely private to your account. The parts-detection call happens in real time but your writing is never stored externally or used to train AI models. Write freely.
